When buying a bike you should ask questions, and be asked questions. You should never feel embarrassed to ask questions about a bike while trying to decide if it is right for you.
And you should NEVER be made to feel judged or embarrassed about walking into a shop and asking those questions. If the person you're talking to makes you feel that way...well, if we were you we'd leave.
